Abu Francis is showing encouraging signs of recovery after the horrific leg injury that rocked Ghanaian football, but the Toulouse midfielder’s road back to full fitness remains a race against time ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 24-year-old suffered a double fracture to his tibia and fibula while representing the Black Stars in a friendly against Japan on November 14, 2025, in Aichi, scenes that left fans and teammates stunned as he was stretchered off in visible agony.

Following successful surgery and intensive rehabilitation, Francis has recently returned to training on grass and is working with the ball again, a key milestone in his recovery journey that suggests steady progress from the severe injury.

His return to outdoor work has sparked optimism among supporters and pundits that, if his recovery continues on its current trajectory, Francis could push for a spot in Ghana’s World Cup squad.

However, it is still unclear whether he will be fully fit in time for Ghana’s opening match in the tournament, a situation compounded by the speed required to shift from rehabilitation to competitive match fitness.

For now, Toulouse and the Black Stars will continue to monitor his progress closely, hoping that the midfielder’s hard work and determination will allow him to overcome one of the toughest setbacks of his career and return to the pitch stronger than ever.
