German-born attacker Ernest Poku has revealed that Ghana is among the nations interested in securing his international allegiance ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but insists he has yet to receive any official communication.
The Bayer Leverkusen forward, who is also eligible to represent Netherlands and Germany, disclosed that while there have been informal approaches, he remains uncertain about their credibility.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sportnieuws, the 22-year-old—who has featured for the Netherlands at various youth levels—stated that he is waiting for official contact before making any decision regarding his international future.
“Netherlands, Ghana and Germany are all options, but I haven’t heard from all three yet. I can only wait,” he said.
Poku also expressed reservations about the nature of the communication he has received from Ghana, suggesting that the outreach has lacked clarity and authenticity.
“I did hear some things from Ghana but that’s fifteen people who message me and say they work there. In the end, you don’t know what to believe. I have indicated that they shouldn’t communicate with me. If so, I will hear it from my agent,” he added.
The forward has been in impressive form this season, registering five goals and four assists in 25 appearances, as speculation over his international allegiance continues to intensify.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, Poku’s decision is expected to attract significant attention, as all three nations monitor his situation closely.
