Wealdstone manager Gary Waddock has challenged young winger Michael Adu-Poku to prove himself and earn more playing time after extending his loan spell at the National League club.
The 20-year-old, on loan from Watford, recently made his first start for Wealdstone in their clash against Forest Green Rovers, a performance that convinced the club to retain his services until the end of the season.
Adu-Poku, who has made three senior appearances for Watford, has also gained experience through loan spells, including time with Barrow earlier this campaign and previously at Solihull Moors.
Waddock expressed satisfaction with the extension but emphasised that the winger must now take the next step in his development.
“I’m pleased we’ve extended Michael’s stay,” Waddock said. “All young players need time to adjust when they come from bigger clubs where opportunities at senior level have been limited.”
He highlighted Adu-Poku’s attacking qualities, describing him as a valuable option within the squad, while noting that adapting to new environments can take time.
“It’s for Michael to force his way into the team. He’s getting great experience by being here, and now it’s about building on what he’s done so far and really stating his case to get more minutes,” he added.
The winger will now be aiming to add to his nine league appearances at Grosvenor Vale as he looks to establish himself as a regular starter before the season concludes.
