CAF President Patrice Motsepe has announced plans to visit Senegal in the coming weeks, calling for unity across Africa following the controversy surrounding the AFCON 2025 final decision.
The Confederation of African Football overturned Senegal’s victory and awarded a 3-0 win to Morocco, a move that has triggered widespread reactions and heightened tensions among supporters. The matter has now been referred to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for a final ruling.
Speaking at a press conference, Motsepe stressed that football must serve as a unifying force rather than a source of division on the continent. He indicated that Africans share a common identity and should not allow the sport to create conflict between nations.
The situation has been further complicated by incidents during the final, where 18 Senegalese fans were arrested during unrest and later jailed in Morocco, raising concerns among football followers.
Motsepe’s planned trip is aimed at easing tensions and showing support, as African football authorities await the outcome of the legal process in what has become one of the most debated decisions in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations.
