Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has revealed that the race to become the next head coach of the Black Stars has attracted massive global interest, with over 600 applications submitted for the role.
Speaking after the dismissal of Otto Addo, Okraku disclosed that the overwhelming number of applications reflects the stature and appeal of the Ghana national team on the international stage.
“We have received over 600 applications for Black Stars job.”
According to him, the FA is carefully reviewing each application as it seeks to appoint the right candidate to lead the team into a new era.
The GFA boss emphasized that the process is being fast-tracked, with plans to name a new head coach within the next one to two weeks.
He noted that while the volume of applications is high, the focus remains on quality, experience, and alignment with the long-term vision of Ghana football, particularly with the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon.
Okraku also indicated that both local and foreign coaches are under consideration, highlighting the FA’s commitment to conducting a thorough and transparent selection process.
The aim, he said, is to find a coach capable of rebuilding confidence in the team and delivering results at the highest level.
The Black Stars are preparing for upcoming international friendlies against Mexico and Wales in May, which adds urgency to the appointment. The incoming coach will have limited time to assess the squad, implement tactical ideas, and build cohesion ahead of the global tournament.
Ghana has been drawn into a challenging World Cup group that includes Panama, Croatia, and England, making the choice of the next coach a crucial decision for the country’s football ambitions.
