Former Ghana women’s national football team head coach Nora Häuptle has resigned from her role as manager of the Zambia women’s national football team, citing ongoing structural and management challenges.
Häuptle, who left Ghana to take up the Zambia job, confirmed her decision in an official statement, announcing that she has stepped down from all duties and will not lead the team at the upcoming FIFA Series in Brazil.
The Swiss tactician revealed she had submitted a detailed 10-point proposal to the Football Association of Zambia aimed at improving the team’s organisation and long-term competitiveness. However, she indicated that key concerns remain unresolved.
“As a leader and role model with a clear attitude, I want to step out with a transparent statement,” she said, emphasizing the need for stronger commitment and better structures.
Despite guiding Zambia to qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations—also serving as a World Cup qualifier—Häuptle described her tenure as challenging, particularly under the current FAZ leadership.
She highlighted several areas requiring urgent improvement, including administrative efficiency, technical support, planning, and investment in women’s football.
“Passion requires 100% commitment… a little less effort is not enough to succeed at the highest level,” she stressed.
Häuptle added that her resignation is intended to push for meaningful reforms, while leaving the door open for future engagement should significant changes be made.
Her departure comes just a year after leaving the Black Queens role, where contract renewal talks with the Ghana Football Association failed to reach an agreement.
