Kelvin Yeboah delivered an outstanding performance to earn the Most Valuable Player award after leading Minnesota United FC to a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer on Sunday night.
The Ghanaian forward, nephew of Tony Yeboah, played a decisive role as Minnesota overturned a two-goal deficit in front of their home supporters.
Trailing in the contest, Minnesota found renewed hope through Yeboah, who sparked the comeback with a well-taken goal just after the hour mark. The 25-year-old showed sharp awareness, slipping between defenders before calmly finishing from a clever flicked assist by Anthony Markanich.
He then struck again moments later to level the score, rising highest to power home a header from a pinpoint corner delivered by Joaquin Pereyra in the 66th minute.
Minnesota United completed the turnaround late in the match, sealing an impressive victory with Yeboah’s influence proving central to the result.
In recognition of his match-winning display, Yeboah was voted MVP by the club’s supporters. As part of the honour, he will receive a $1,000 prize to donate to a charity initiative of his choice.
