Joseph Paintsil continued his strong return to form with a goal for LA Galaxy in their 1-1 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer on Saturday night.
The Ghana international winger, who recently returned from injury, is gradually regaining his sharpness and influence, taking his tally to two goals and two assists in seven league appearances this season.
After a relatively uneventful first half, Paintsil broke the deadlock shortly after the restart. The 26-year-old latched onto a well-weighted pass from Lucas Sanabria before finishing calmly to put the hosts ahead.
LA Galaxy looked set to claim all three points, controlling large spells of the game, but the visitors mounted a late response. With nine minutes remaining, Mathias Laborda rose above the defence to head home the equaliser for Vancouver Whitecaps, ensuring the match ended in a stalemate.
The encounter also saw Emmanuel Afriyie Sabbi feature for the Whitecaps, as the Ghanaian forward played his part in securing a valuable point away from home.
Paintsil’s resurgence will be a welcome boost for both club and the Ghana national team, as he continues to rediscover the attacking spark that made him one of LA Galaxy’s standout performers last season.
The result keeps LA Galaxy on a steady path in the campaign, while Vancouver Whitecaps maintain their competitiveness in the Western Conference standings.
