Ibrahim Tanko has stressed the importance of Medeama SC’s 2-0 victory over Bibiani Gold Stars in the Ghana Premier League, describing it as a crucial boost in their title chase.
The win against the second-placed side has strengthened Medeama’s position with just four matches remaining in the season, keeping their championship hopes alive.
Speaking after the match, Tanko admitted the result was vital, even though his side had aimed for a bigger scoreline.
“When you beat an opponent who is behind you, it’s a relief. We are now four games to go, and we are ahead, so we are looking forward. We needed the three points today,” he said. “We wanted to score more, but what mattered most was the victory.”
Despite acknowledging the difficulty of the remaining fixtures, the Medeama coach remains confident his team can sustain their push for the league title.
“The four remaining matches won’t be easy. We are going to prepare very well. We want to win the league, so definitely we need to keep fighting,” he added.
Medeama now turn their attention to their next fixture against Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday, May 6, as the title race intensifies.
