Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has revealed that former Black Stars captain André Ayew has always been his childhood idol, crediting the veteran midfielder as a major influence on his career.
In an exclusive interview with JoySports, the SC Freiburg midfielder spoke warmly about Ayew’s impact on him during his early days with the national team.
“From the day I joined the Black Stars to when I had the injury and couldn’t participate anymore, he was really taking good care of me. Of course, he was my childhood hero,” Kyereh said.
“I still have pictures of him and others in my childhood room. I have big respect for Dede.”
Kyereh earned his first call-up to the Ghana national team in 2021 and gained wider recognition during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where he featured in Ghana’s group-stage campaign.
He was also part of Ghana’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup but suffered a long-term injury that kept him out of action for around 36 months.
The midfielder has since returned to fitness, recently featuring and scoring for Freiburg’s U-23 side as he continues his recovery and rebuild.
