Emmanuel Addai found the net for Qarabag FK, but his effort was not enough to prevent a dramatic 4-3 defeat to Sumqayit in an entertaining Azerbaijan Premier League encounter.
The Ghanaian forward struck in the 22nd minute, restoring Qarabag’s control after Ramil Sheydayev had opened the scoring just three minutes into the match.
Qarabag went on to establish a 2-0 lead before halftime, but the game shifted after the break as Sumqayit mounted a strong comeback to turn the contest into a frantic, end-to-end affair.
Addai’s well-taken goal remained one of the highlights of the first half, but Qarabag were eventually undone by three second-half and stoppage-time goals from the hosts.
Despite scoring three away goals, Qarabag were punished for defensive lapses in a match where Sumqayit showed resilience and attacking intent until the final whistle.
The result marks a rare setback for the Azerbaijani champions, who have otherwise enjoyed a strong campaign.
Individually, Addai continues to enjoy a productive season, with five goals and one assist in 29 league appearances in the 2025/26 Azerbaijan Premier League campaign.
