Ghana’s national team coach, Carlos Queiroz has announced a 28-man Black Stars squad for the team’s pre-World Cup training camp and the upcoming international friendly against Wales in Cardiff.
The Nac Breda forward again misses out of the list, bringing a close to his chances of being named in the Ghanaian squad for the FIFA World Cup.
The squad, which is made up of five goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders, and seven attackers, began preparations on Monday, May 25, 2026. Training sessions are being held at Dragon Park in Wales as the team fine-tunes its strategy ahead of the friendly scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
One of the major highlights of the selection is the return of experienced left-back , who earns a recall after nearly two years away from the national setup. The PAOK defender has enjoyed a strong season in Greece, featuring regularly and contributing goals and assists.
Also making a comeback is Lyon winger , who returns after a long injury layoff that kept him out for over a year. He has recently regained full fitness and form.
Other players returning to the squad include Rayo Vallecano defender , who is back after recovering from a serious knee injury, Saint-Étienne midfielder , and Rennes defender . Their inclusion adds depth and experience to the team’s defensive and midfield options.
Young Ajax prospect has also been called up for assessment as the technical team looks to evaluate his long-term potential within the national setup.
The Black Stars contingent will remain in Cardiff for their preparations ahead of the friendly and the broader objective of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
At the tournament, Ghana has been drawn in Group L, where they will open their campaign against Panama in Toronto before facing England in Boston and Croatia in Philadelphia.
