Solomon Agbasi has been retained as an additional member of the Black Stars camp despite not making Ghana’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with head coach Carlos Queiroz explaining the importance of keeping the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper involved with the national team.

The decision has drawn attention from football fans across the country following the announcement of Ghana’s final squad for the global tournament. While Agbasi was not among the selected players who will officially represent the Black Stars at the World Cup, the coaching staff has chosen to keep him within the team’s setup as preparations continue.

According to Carlos Queiroz, the move forms part of a broader strategy aimed at maintaining squad depth and ensuring that the team remains adequately prepared for any unforeseen circumstances during the competition.

The Hearts of Oak shot-stopper has earned recognition for his performances in domestic football and has steadily worked his way into the national team picture. His inclusion in the training camp, despite missing out on the final list, is viewed as a sign of the confidence the technical team has in his abilities and potential future contribution to the Black Stars.

Agbasi’s continued presence in camp will allow him to gain valuable experience by training alongside some of Ghana’s top players and working closely with the national team’s coaching staff. Such opportunities are expected to aid his development and strengthen his prospects for future national team assignments.

The decision also reflects the importance of maintaining competition within the squad. By keeping additional players involved, the technical team ensures that standards remain high throughout the preparation period while providing cover in the event of injuries or other unforeseen challenges.

For Agbasi, remaining with the squad represents a significant achievement and another important step in his football journey. Although he may not feature on the final tournament roster, his involvement places him among the country’s elite footballers and highlights his growing reputation within Ghanaian football.

The goalkeeper’s rise has been particularly encouraging for Hearts of Oak supporters, who have watched him develop into one of the club’s dependable performers. His association with the Black Stars setup serves as recognition of his hard work and dedication at both club and national levels.

Many football observers believe that experiences such as these can prove invaluable for young players. Training within a World Cup environment offers exposure to elite standards, tactical preparation and the demands associated with competing at the highest level of international football.

As Ghana continues its preparations for the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States, the Black Stars technical team remains focused on assembling the strongest possible unit capable of representing the nation with distinction.

While Solomon Agbasi may not be part of the official World Cup squad, his retention within the camp demonstrates the faith Carlos Queiroz has in the goalkeeper and underscores the importance of building a strong and competitive national team structure for both the present and the future.
