Marvin Senaya called Ghana’s 0-0 draw with England a great game from the team and said playing at the World Cup is a dream for me, a dream for our children.
The right back played 90 minutes at Gillette Stadium as Ghana shut out England to move to four points in Group L, keeping their Round of 32 hopes alive ahead of the final group game against Croatia on June 28.
“Yeah, it’s just a great game from the team,” Senaya said.
“I’m happy to have one point today and we can continue at the last game against Croatia and God bless.”
Senaya refused to take individual credit for the clean sheet, instead pointing to the full team’s defensive effort from captain Jordan Ayew forward.
“I think it’s not always me. I think it’s all defence, all the teams, since Jordan,” he said. “I’m very proud of the team. We were fighting and it wasn’t an easy game, but with the hurts, we keep a one point today and I’m happy.”
The 24-year-old, who plays his club football in France, said representing Ghana on the world stage was emotional.
“Yeah, for sure. It’s a dream for me. It’s a dream for our children,” Senaya said. “And I’m happy to be here with my country, Ghana. I hope a lot of things come.”
Senaya lined up alongside Jerome Opoku, Jonas Adjetey and Gideon Mensah in a back four that limited England to few clear chances, with Benjamin Asare making a key save from Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka in either half.
Ghana and England now sit level on four points in Group L. A win against Croatia would guarantee the Black Stars a place in the knockout rounds for the first time since 2010.
