Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams has called on the Black Stars to remain united and build on the positives from their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign following their Round of 32 elimination to Colombia.
Addressing the players and technical team after Ghana’s narrow 1-0 defeat at Kansas City Stadium, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the commitment, sacrifice and hard work displayed throughout the tournament.
“Let’s continue to be together and be as a team,” Hon. Adams told the squad.
He paid special tribute to the technical team for the effort invested in preparing the side, acknowledging the countless hours spent analysing opponents and developing tactical strategies.
“To the technical team, we thank you for the huge work and investment done. We know the sleepless nights you have spent analysing many videos to develop strategies. We don’t take this for granted,” he said.
Ghana’s World Cup journey came to an end after Colombia secured a 1-0 victory through an early strike from Jhon Arias, but the Sports Minister insisted the defeat should not overshadow the progress the Black Stars have made.
“Our wish was to have continued in the tournament. But football is a game where, whether it lasts 90 minutes, 120 minutes or is decided on penalties, one team must emerge victorious. Unfortunately for us, the result was decided within the 90 minutes,” he noted.
Despite the disappointment, Hon. Adams believes the Black Stars have laid a solid foundation for future success and urged the team to quickly shift their attention to the next challenge.
“We are grateful for your time, your commitment and everything you have given. I believe everyone can see that we have taken a positive step forward, and we will continue working together as we prepare for our next assignment,” he added.
The Minister also urged the players to maintain the togetherness that characterised the team’s World Cup campaign as preparations begin for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
“Put it in your minds and let all of us respond to the call. Let’s stay united, listen to one another and continue working together. We are one team—we win together and we lose together,” he concluded.
