Ghanaian youngster Isaac Assibu has been rewarded for his impressive rise at Swedish giants Malmö FF after signing a long-term contract extension and earning a permanent promotion to the club’s first team.
The 18-year-old winger has committed his future to the Allsvenskan side until beyond 2030, following a remarkable development journey since joining the club from the West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) in 2025.
Assibu initially arrived at Malmö to continue his development with the club’s U19 team, but his performances quickly caught the attention of the senior technical staff.
Before the mid-season break, the talented winger made six appearances in the U19 Allsvenskan, scoring three goals and showcasing the attacking qualities that have made him one of Ghana’s most promising young prospects.
His progress accelerated after the summer break when he began training regularly with the first team. Strong performances in sessions earned him a place in Malmö’s matchday squad for their Allsvenskan fixture against IFK Göteborg before he made his league debut as a substitute against Kalmar FF.
Known for his explosive pace, creativity and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations, Assibu has impressed the club with his attacking instincts and confidence despite his young age.
Malmö sporting director Philip Berglund expressed his delight at securing the Ghanaian’s long-term future, praising his mentality and impact in training.
“Isaac has shown an X-factor and a mentality in training that we have all been impressed with. It will be exciting to continue to follow Isaac’s development as he is now permanently promoted to our men’s team from P19. We are very happy to sign a contract with him beyond 2030,” Berglund said.
Assibu also expressed his happiness after signing the new deal and continuing his journey with the Swedish giants.
“I am very happy to extend my contract. I feel good in Malmö, it is a nice place and I am getting into it more and more. It has been a very good experience to train with the first team every day and it has made me develop,” he said.
Reflecting on his top-flight debut, the Ghanaian added:
“It was fantastic to make my debut in the Allsvenskan. I just want to continue developing as a player and in the future I hope I can help the team win more titles.”
The new contract represents another major milestone in Assibu’s promising career and highlights Malmö FF’s belief in his potential. The club will now hope the Ghanaian winger can continue his rapid development and establish himself as a key player for the first team in the coming years.
