England-born Ghanaian forward Charles Sagoe Jr has revealed his ambition to one day feature at the FIFA World Cup, admitting that watching players perform on football’s biggest stage has motivated him to push for greater heights.
The 22-year-old is currently enjoying a productive spell in Sweden with Kalmar FF, where his impressive performances have strengthened his belief that he can eventually represent his country at the highest level.
However, Sagoe Jr still faces an important decision regarding his international future. Born in England to Ghanaian parents, the forward is eligible to represent England and Ghana, while his heritage also makes him eligible for Liberia.
Speaking to Sky Sport while following the 2026 FIFA World Cup from Sweden, Sagoe Jr expressed his desire to one day experience the tournament himself.
“One day that could be me on that big stage,” he said.
“It’s very motivating for me, seeing players in similar positions to myself performing at the highest level at the World Cup.”
The forward added that success at club level has further increased his determination to continue improving and eventually reach football’s biggest platform.
“Winning the league, as well, I feel like it’s given everyone at the club that boost of motivation to keep on pushing. Especially coming through the ranks at the academy, it gives you that drive to keep on pushing because one day that could be you in that position.”
Sagoe Jr, who developed through Arsenal’s academy before moving abroad, is currently on loan at Kalmar FF in the Swedish Allsvenskan, where he has enjoyed an excellent campaign.
The talented attacker has registered eight assists and one goal in 13 league appearances, making him one of the standout performers for the Swedish club.
