Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has outlined an ambitious long-term plan to build a stronger Ghana team capable of competing at the highest level, with the 2030 FIFA World Cup already part of his vision.
The Portuguese coach, who has been retained by the Ghana Football Association following Ghana’s impressive showing at the 2026 World Cup, says the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be an important step in developing the team.
Queiroz believes the AFCON should not be viewed simply as Ghana’s next competition but as an opportunity to lay the foundation for a Black Stars side that can compete strongly at the 2030 World Cup.
He has called for greater unity, continuous improvement and a strong national commitment as the team begins a new chapter under his leadership.
The coach says his objective is to make Ghana more competitive while ensuring the Black Stars approach every match with determination, humility and pride.
Ghana reached the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup for the first time since 2010 after finishing third in their group. Their campaign, however, ended following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.
Queiroz’s immediate priority is now the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, with Ghana set to begin the qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire away before hosting The Gambia.
The coach is expected to use the qualification campaign and the AFCON as part of a broader rebuilding process aimed at preparing Ghana for the 2030 global showpiece.
