Ghanaian defender Rockson Yeboah has described making his LaLiga debut for Osasuna as an “amazing feeling”, despite the disappointment of suffering a 5-2 defeat to Deportivo Alavés on Sunday.
The 22-year-old was introduced in the 60th minute, replacing Flavien Boyomo, and played the final half-hour at Mendizorroza.
Speaking after the game, Yeboah admitted the result took some shine off what was otherwise a significant moment in his young career.
“I think it’s an amazing feeling, but the result wasn’t good. It’s an amazing feeling to make my LaLiga debut.”
Yeboah also conceded that Osasuna had not produced the performance they expected.
“I think it was a very difficult game because we weren’t expecting this. I think we didn’t give our best.”
The appearance represents another significant step in a career that began in Ghana before taking Yeboah through Greece and Sweden to one of Europe’s biggest leagues.
Born in Berekum, Yeboah had spells with Ghanaian sides including Bec-Tero FC, Techiman United and Young African Promises before securing a move to AEK Athens in 2023. He spent the 2023/24 campaign with AEK Athens B, making 22 appearances in Greece’s second tier.
His performances helped pave the way for a move to Swedish giants IFK Göteborg in August 2024, where his development accelerated. Yeboah went on to establish himself in the Swedish top flight, eventually making 44 first-team appearances and scoring twice for Göteborg.
That progress attracted interest from Spain, with Osasuna completing his signing in August 2026. The Pamplona club paid €3 million for the centre-back and handed him a five-year contract running until June 2031, with a €30 million release clause.
Osasuna highlighted Yeboah’s physical qualities upon his arrival, including his 1.90m frame, aerial ability and pace, with the defender having been clocked at almost 35 km/h.
Less than a month after completing that move, Yeboah has now taken his first steps in LaLiga.
Despite the excitement surrounding his personal milestone, his immediate attention has turned towards helping Osasuna respond to the Alavés defeat.
“We are going in for a win because it’s our home game and we have amazing fans. We are hoping they are going to support us as they have been doing. We are going for a win next game.”
Osasuna return to El Sadar to face Espanyol on September 12, presenting Yeboah with the possibility of making his first LaLiga appearance in front of the club’s home supporters.
For the Ghanaian defender, however, Sunday’s result will carry contrasting memories — disappointment in defeat, but also the fulfilment of another milestone in a journey that has taken him from Berekum to Athens, Gothenburg and now LaLiga.
