Hearts of Oak striker John Antwi has set his sights on a place in the Black Stars squad after making an outstanding start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The veteran forward announced his arrival in style by scoring twice as the Phobians cruised to a commanding 4-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday.
Having joined Hearts from Dreams FC ahead of the new campaign, Antwi believes consistent performances in the Ghana Premier League could earn him the attention of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz.
The 34-year-old admitted that wearing the national team jersey remains the dream of every Ghanaian footballer, but insists he is focused on working hard and allowing his performances to speak for themselves.
“Every player wants to play for the national team, but I will continue to work hard and wait for my opportunity,” Antwi said after the match.
The experienced striker also credited Hearts of Oak head coach Nebojsa Kapor and his technical staff for helping him settle quickly at the club.
According to Antwi, the Bosnian tactician has created a positive atmosphere that has boosted his confidence and allowed him to perform at his best since arriving in Accra.
With two goals already to his name, Antwi will be eager to maintain his impressive scoring form when Hearts of Oak travel to DUN’s Park to face reigning Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Gold Stars in their second league fixture this weekend.
A strong run of performances could strengthen the striker’s case for a return to the national team as Carlos Queiroz continues to assess his options ahead of Ghana’s upcoming international assignments.
