Ghanaian midfielder Eric Taylor has rejoined NK Maribor ahead of the 2026/27 season after completing a productive six-month loan spell with Slovenian rivals NK Aluminij.
The 25-year-old returned to the Ljudski vrt after Maribor exercised their option to recall him before the close of the transfer window, following a campaign in which he gained valuable playing time and further developed his game.
Announcing his return, the Slovenian giants expressed confidence in the former New Life FC midfielder, highlighting the progress he made during his time away.
“Leaving for valuable minutes and new experiences. Returning with additional motivation and a desire to prove himself. After a period on loan at Aluminij, Eric Taylor is back in Ljudski vrt, by agreement between the two clubs. Ready for a new chapter in purple, in the jersey with number 15,” the club said in a statement.
Taylor made 26 appearances for Aluminij, playing a key role in the club’s successful campaign. During his loan spell, he helped the team lift a domestic cup title and featured in European competition, experiences he believes have prepared him for a bigger role at Maribor.
Speaking after his return, the Ghanaian midfielder expressed his excitement about rejoining the club and embracing a fresh challenge.
“I am very happy to be back and I can’t wait for the new chapter to begin. My time at Aluminij was very successful. I had the opportunity to play regularly, improve my game and gain valuable experience.”
Taylor admitted that adapting to Slovenian football initially took time but says he now feels fully settled and ready to compete at a higher level.
“When I first came to Slovenia, I needed some time to adapt to the style of play. This season, however, I have become completely familiar with the characteristics of the league, and I believe I am ready for the next challenges.”
The midfielder also praised the transformation Maribor has undergone in his absence, noting the team’s improved performances and renewed ambition.
“Maribor is much different from last season. The results are better, the team is stronger, and I followed all the matches. I’m delighted to be part of the purple family again, and I believe we can fight together for the championship title.”
Taylor will now be aiming to establish himself in Maribor’s first team as the club pursues domestic success and a strong campaign in European competitions. His return offers the Slovenian giants added depth in midfield while giving the Ghanaian another opportunity to showcase his talent on a bigger stage.
