Tariq Lamptey’s return to regular football has suffered a setback after the Ghanaian defender was forced off with an injury during Queens Park Rangers’ Championship clash with Charlton Athletic.
The 25-year-old was substituted after just 36 minutes, raising fresh concerns over his fitness after finally returning to competitive action following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Lamptey had been building momentum with QPR and was making his fifth consecutive appearance for the Championship side before the latest injury forced him out of the game.
The timing of the setback will be particularly concerning given the defender’s recent injury history. Lamptey missed a significant portion of the 2025-26 campaign after suffering a knee injury before undergoing cruciate ligament surgery, which kept him out for more than seven months and saw him miss over 40 matches.
His injury record also includes previous knee, ankle, calf, muscle and hamstring problems, with several of those setbacks keeping him out for extended periods.
The nature and severity of the latest injury are yet to be confirmed, meaning it remains unclear how long Lamptey could be sidelined.
The Ghana international will now be hoping the latest setback is minor and does not lead to another lengthy absence just as he was beginning to regain consistency.
