Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko believes a lack of experience at the continental level largely contributed to his side’s early elimination from the CAF Champions League.
The Ghana Premier League champions exited the competition in the first preliminary round after losing 3-1 to TP Mazembe in the second leg in Lubumbashi over the weekend.
The Yellow and Mauve had also suffered a narrow defeat in the first leg at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa, leaving Mazembe to progress to the next round with a 4-1 aggregate victory.
The enterprising gaffer dmitted that several players were featuring at this level for the first time and struggled with the occasion.
“Like I said before, we gave the goals up. Unfortunately, we have a lot of players who are playing here for the first time, at this level, so definitely they are jittery a bit,” he said.
He also praised the changes made during the game but admitted that Medeama could not find the goals needed to turn the tie around.
“We made very good changes, and then we pressed to get the goals, but unfortunately it didn’t work out well,” Tanko added.
Medeama SC will now turn their attention back to domestic competition after their early exit from the CAF Champions League.
