Former Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed that Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo frequently seeks his advice as he adapts to life at Premier League champions Manchester City.
The ex-Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid striker disclosed that the Black Stars attacker regularly contacts him for guidance on handling the pressure and expectations that come with representing one of the world’s biggest clubs.
Adebayor, who enjoyed a distinguished career at the highest level of European football, said he always encourages Semenyo to stay grounded, trust his talent and continue working hard.
“He always asks me, ‘Big bro, how can I do this? How can I work on this?’ And all I keep telling him is, keep your head on your shoulders and keep working hard,” Adebayor told 3Sports.
The former Togo international believes Semenyo deserves his place at Manchester City and insists the Premier League giants would not have signed him without complete confidence in his abilities.
“People may say he’s not good enough for Manchester City, but clubs like City don’t make decisions overnight. They hold countless meetings before signing a player. If they brought you in, it’s because they believe in your quality,” he explained.
Adebayor acknowledged that Semenyo is still adjusting to a squad packed with world-class stars but is convinced the Ghana international has everything required to establish himself at the Etihad Stadium.
“He’s struggling a little bit because he’s new to the environment and surrounded by experienced players, but he will get there,” he said.
The 41-year-old also urged Semenyo to embrace the learning process by taking advice from senior teammates and remaining patient.
“He has to adapt, listen to the older and more experienced players, and keep learning. At some point, the tide will turn, and he will become one of the key players for the team,” Adebayor added.
Semenyo has enjoyed a rapid rise in recent years and is now regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential attacking players. Adebayor believes the forward has the mentality and ability to thrive at Manchester City if he continues to believe in himself and remains focused on his development.
