Carlos Queiroz says Ghana cannot afford to make wholesale changes to the Black Stars squad every time players are called up, stressing that consistency will be crucial to building a strong and competitive national team.
The Portuguese coach believes repeatedly changing the core of the squad would make it difficult to establish the understanding, chemistry and tactical identity needed for the team to perform at a high level.
According to Queiroz, each major change to the squad could force the technical team to return to the beginning of the team-building process, making it harder to develop a settled group of players who understand one another and the demands of the system.
He therefore wants Ghana to maintain a strong core of players while allowing room for changes when injuries, form, fitness or other circumstances require them.
The coach’s approach is aimed at creating stability within the Black Stars, particularly as Ghana prepares for important qualifying matches and seeks to build a squad capable of competing for major honours.
Queiroz believes continuity can help players develop better relationships on the pitch, improve communication and understand their respective responsibilities within the team’s tactical structure.
Rather than constantly starting again with a completely different group, the coach wants the Black Stars to gradually develop from one call-up to another, with new players integrated into an established core.
The Portuguese coach has also placed emphasis on player commitment, trust and communication between the Ghana Football Association and the playing body, areas he considers important to creating a united national team.
His comments suggest that squad development will be treated as a continuous process, with every international window providing an opportunity to strengthen what has already been established rather than completely rebuilding the team.
For Ghana, maintaining a settled core could also give the technical team more time to assess combinations, identify the strongest partnerships and improve the team’s understanding ahead of increasingly important competitive fixtures.
