Carlos Queiroz’s tenure as head coach of the Black Stars has come under increasing scrutiny following Ghana’s disappointing run of results in his first seven matches in charge.
The experienced Portuguese coach has so far guided Ghana in seven matches, recording one win, two draws and four defeats.
During that period, the Black Stars have scored only five goals while conceding 10, leaving the team with a negative goal difference of five.
Ghana’s record under Queiroz translates to a win rate of approximately 14 percent, while the team has lost more than half of the matches played under his leadership.
The scoring figures have also been a concern, with the Black Stars averaging less than one goal per game.
Ghana have found the back of the net just five times in seven matches, an average of about 0.71 goals per game.
Defensively, the team has conceded 10 goals, averaging approximately 1.43 goals per match.
The latest setback came in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, when Ghana suffered a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The result followed Ghana’s earlier 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké, leaving the Black Stars with two defeats from their opening two qualifying matches.
The four-goal concession against The Gambia was particularly damaging because Ghana had taken control of the match at different stages but ultimately failed to protect their advantage.
The latest defeat has increased pressure on Queiroz and his technical team, particularly as expectations remain high for the Black Stars to return to consistent winning form.
Queiroz has, however, maintained that the challenges facing Ghana football extend beyond the national team coach.
The Portuguese tactician has previously spoken about the need for broader investment in player development, coaching, infrastructure, pitches, youth football and other areas of the game.
Following the latest defeat, he also indicated that he would be prepared to step down if his resignation would genuinely help bring about positive changes in Ghana football.
He added that the decision concerning his future should ultimately be made by the Ghana Football Association board after a proper assessment of the situation.
For now, Queiroz’s seven-match record provides a clear statistical picture of a Black Stars side that has struggled for victories and goals while conceding at a relatively high rate.
With the 2027 AFCON qualification campaign underway, Ghana will need a significant improvement in results and performances if the team is to regain momentum and meet its qualification ambitions.
