Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has explained his approach to introducing new players into the national team, stressing the importance of protecting young or inexperienced players from being exposed to difficult situations before they are ready.
Queiroz made the comments while discussing the decision to give players such as Augustine Boakye an opportunity to feature for Ghana.
The Portuguese coach acknowledged the need to introduce fresh players into the team but said such decisions must be carefully managed to avoid placing unnecessary pressure on them.
“But you have to be sure that when you put new players on the pitch, you don’t burn the players, you don’t send them to a fire moment.”
Queiroz’s comments come after Boakye was handed an opportunity to make his Black Stars debut during Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The coach’s position suggests that introducing new players into the national team involves more than simply selecting those performing well at club level.
He believes the technical team must also consider the circumstances of the match, the level of pressure involved and whether the player is adequately prepared to cope with the demands of international football.
