Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, has called for the Black Stars to be disbanded and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to be dissolved following Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The outspoken minister made the remarks after the Black Stars suffered a dramatic 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium, a result that left Ghana rooted to the bottom of Group C with no points from two matches.
Reacting to the team’s latest setback, Sam George argued that Ghanaian football needs a complete reset rather than temporary fixes.
“My position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the GFA,” he wrote on X.
The Ningo-Prampram MP went further by suggesting that Ghana should even accept a temporary FIFA suspension if it would provide the opportunity to rebuild the national team properly.
“Let FIFA ban us for two years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts, but the patchwork is worse. Cheers,” he added.
His comments come amid growing frustration among football fans following consecutive defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, which have severely dented Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 AFCON.
The Black Stars have now endured one of their worst starts to an AFCON qualifying campaign in recent history, piling further pressure on head coach Carlos Queiroz and the Ghana Football Association.
Sam George’s remarks are expected to spark widespread debate as calls for sweeping reforms in Ghana football continue to intensify following the national team’s latest disappointment.
