Former Ghana Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye has raised concerns over the involvement of club owners in the administration of Ghana football, warning that personal interests could affect decisions made in the national interest.
Speaking in an interview with Joy FM, the former lawmaker argued that allowing individuals with direct ownership interests in clubs to oversee football management creates a challenging situation.
“When people who directly own clubs are managing our football, we have a problem. There is no way the national interest will supersede personal interest,” Nii Lante Vanderpuye said.
His comments come amid renewed debate over the direction of Ghana football following the Black Stars’ disappointing performances in recent matches.
The former Sports Minister believes structural changes are needed to ensure that decisions concerning the national team and the wider football ecosystem are made with Ghana’s interests as the priority.
The Black Stars have come under intense scrutiny after a poor start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, increasing calls for reforms within the football administration.
