Carlos Queiroz will reportedly not continue as head coach of the Black Stars following showdown talks over Ghana’s disastrous start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Portuguese coach’s tenure is expected to come to an end after Ghana suffered consecutive defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, leaving the Black Stars without a point from their opening two Group C matches.
The latest development comes just a day after Queiroz said his future was in the hands of the Ghana Football Association, following the Black Stars’ shocking 4-2 defeat to The Gambia after taking a two-goal lead.
The GFA had only recently agreed to retain Queiroz after the 2026 World Cup, but the poor start to the AFCON qualifiers has reportedly forced a fresh decision on his future.
Queiroz had defended his position after the defeat, saying resignation would be the easiest solution but questioning whether his departure would resolve Ghana’s wider football problems.
The reported decision also comes after former GFA Deputy General Secretary Ibrahim Sannie Daara publicly called for a new technical direction and said Queiroz had “no business continuing” as Black Stars coach.
If confirmed, Queiroz’s second spell with the Black Stars will end amid intense pressure following two damaging AFCON qualifying defeats.
