The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports is set to invite the Ghana Football Association and the Minister responsible for Sports to explain the recent struggles of the Black Stars.
Chairman of the Committee, Ernest Henry Norgbey, says the planned engagement will seek to establish what is happening to Ghana football, particularly the senior national team.
He said the committee has not yet conducted its own investigation into the Black Stars’ recent performances but intends to engage the key institutions responsible for the management of the national team.
Norgbey said, “We as a committee are yet to investigate into the performance of the Black Stars of recent times. We plan to invite the GFA, the Minister, purposely and specifically to interrogate what actually is happening to Ghana football, especially when it comes to the Black Stars.”
The development comes after the Black Stars suffered back-to-back defeats in their opening Group C matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ghana lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before suffering another setback at home, losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium despite taking a two-goal lead.
The results have intensified scrutiny of the Ghana Football Association, the technical team and the broader administration of the national team.
The Parliamentary Sports Committee is expected to use the engagement to seek explanations on the team’s performances and the wider challenges confronting Ghana football.
Norgbey has also raised the possibility of major restructuring within Ghana football, although he has clarified that he is not making an immediate call for the dissolution of the GFA.
He said the committee first needs to understand the circumstances surrounding the Black Stars before deciding what measures may be necessary.
The planned parliamentary engagement could therefore bring increased scrutiny to the leadership and management of Ghana football as the Black Stars attempt to recover from their poor start to the AFCON qualifying campaign.
