Medeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko has cautioned his players against underestimating newly promoted Debibi United ahead of their Ghana Premier League encounter, insisting that the defending champions must approach the game with the necessary seriousness.
Medeama will travel to face Debibi United after maintaining an unbeaten record in their opening four matches of the 2026/27 season. However, Tanko expects a difficult contest against a side that has shown encouraging signs since securing promotion to the top flight.
The Medeama coach believes Debibi United possess experienced players capable of causing problems for the champions, highlighting the quality within their squad as a reason his team must remain focused throughout the encounter.
Speaking ahead of the match, Tanko acknowledged the strength of the newly promoted side and pointed to the presence of former Hearts of Oak striker Kwadwo Obeng Jnr and Owusu.
“I mean, like any other game, these are a team that qualified for the Premier League, so definitely they have qualities. And we have our boy there, [Owusu]. They have a former Hearts of Oak striker [Kwadwo Obeng Jnr. I mean, they have some experienced players among them, definitely. We are going with all seriousness and then see what happens.”
Debibi United have also demonstrated resilience at home this season, remaining unbeaten on their own ground. Their performances suggest Medeama will need to deliver a disciplined display if they are to secure a favourable result.
Although Medeama have avoided defeat in their first four league matches, the defending champions are still searching for their first away victory of the campaign. Tanko will therefore be hoping his players can translate their positive start into success on the road.
The coach has made it clear that avoiding defeat remains an immediate priority as Medeama seek to preserve their unbeaten run and maintain their position among the early contenders in the league.
“We don’t want to lose, so we are going there to come back with something.”
The encounter presents Medeama with another test of their title credentials, while Debibi United will be eager to use their home advantage to challenge the reigning champions and continue their encouraging start to life in the Ghana Premier League.
