The President and Founder of UMB Division One League side Nukunu FC, Hon. Edem Agbana, has appealed to supporters of the club to remain patient and continue backing the team despite its difficult start to the season.
Nukunu FC are currently navigating the challenges that come with competing in the Division One League for the first time, with injuries, uncertainty surrounding their home venue and other setbacks affecting their opening matches.
Despite the early difficulties, Agbana insists there is no reason for panic, stressing that the club remains focused on its long-term objectives and the development of a competitive team.
He acknowledged the frustration among supporters who are eager to see the team record positive results but called for continued patience as the season progresses.
“I know the fans are eager for results, but it is still a long season ahead. I appeal to them to remain patient and, most importantly, continue supporting the team.
“The injuries, instability with our home venue, and a few other setbacks have given us a difficult start to the season, but we are not worried. The boys are gradually building their confidence and improving with every game.
“I watched the video of our match against WAFA, and although we lost, I was very proud of the boys. We played beautiful football, and that is exactly the kind of football I want to see as President of the Club.
Agbana believes the performance against WAFA demonstrated that the team is making progress despite the result, with the club placing emphasis on playing attractive football while gradually building confidence among the players.
He also highlighted the club’s deliberate decision to give opportunities to young footballers, describing youth development as a major component of Nukunu FC’s philosophy.
“We have deliberately introduced some very young players into the squad, and they are doing remarkably well. That is a major part of our focus: building a competitive team while developing young talents who can represent Nukunu FC and attract opportunities at the highest level.
According to the club president, the early performances of some of the young players have already attracted attention from scouts, providing further encouragement for the club’s development model.
He specifically mentioned Elorm and Alorgbey as two players whose performances have stood out after the opening three matchdays.
“After Matchday 3, if you ask who some of the most promising young players in the Division One League are, names like Elorm and Alorgbey will certainly come up. We are already receiving enquiries from scouts who are taking interest in some of our players, which is encouraging.
Agbana believes such interest is an indication that Nukunu FC’s decision to combine competitive football with player development is beginning to yield results.
While the club is focused on achieving results on the pitch, the leadership is also looking at creating a pathway through which young players can develop their careers and potentially attract opportunities at higher levels of the game.
Nukunu FC’s debut campaign is therefore being approached as both a competitive project and a long-term development programme.
The club president also pointed to the number of matches still remaining in the campaign as a reason for supporters to remain optimistic.
With 27 matches left to play, Agbana believes there is sufficient time for Nukunu FC to recover from its difficult opening and establish itself as a competitive side in the Division One League.
“We have 27 matches still to play. It will not be easy, but we know what we are building, and I remain confident in the team. Our target is to finish in the Top 5, and I believe we have the quality, the structure and the character to achieve that.
“We are not panicking. We are building.”
The statement from the Nukunu FC president reflects the club’s determination to remain committed to its long-term plans rather than make drastic changes because of an uncertain beginning to the campaign.
For the supporters, the message is one of patience, with the club leadership confident that improvements will come as the players gain more experience and settle into the demands of Division One football.
The technical team will also be expected to manage the challenges of injuries and the uncertainty surrounding the club’s home venue while ensuring that the players continue to develop.
Nukunu FC’s objective remains clear: compete strongly throughout the season, develop promising young talents and finish the campaign among the top five teams.
With a significant portion of the season still ahead, Agbana is confident that the club can overcome its early setbacks and build the foundations for a successful future.
For now, the Nukunu FC leadership is urging supporters to stay behind the team as the players continue their adaptation to Division One football.
The club believes that with patience, consistency and continued support, the difficult start can become part of a longer journey towards establishing Nukunu FC as a respected force in Ghanaian football.
