Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has expressed his satisfaction with life in Uganda after guiding the country’s U17 national team to the CECAFA Championship title, insisting he is enjoying his current role despite having just one year remaining on his contract.
Kingston, who has earned praise for his work with Uganda’s junior national team, says he has settled comfortably into the environment and remains happy with the opportunity to contribute to the development of young footballers.
The former Black Stars winger made the remarks following his latest success with the Uganda U17 team, which clinched the CECAFA Championship title under his leadership.
Reflecting on his contractual situation and his experience in Uganda, Kingston said he was enjoying his work and had developed a strong appreciation for the environment.
“I signed two years, I’m done with now, now it’s left with one year. I love this environment, I’m enjoying it.”
His comments suggest that he remains comfortable with his current position as he continues to work towards achieving more success with Uganda’s youth football programme.
Kingston’s latest triumph adds to his coaching experience and further highlights his growing involvement in youth football on the African continent. Having transitioned from his playing career into coaching, the former Ghana international has continued to pursue opportunities to develop emerging talents and help them compete at the regional level.
Winning the CECAFA Championship represents a significant achievement for Uganda’s U17 side, providing the young players with a confidence boost and valuable experience in competitive international football.
The tournament also offered Kingston an opportunity to demonstrate his ability to guide a national youth team through a regional competition, with the title serving as a reward for the team’s efforts.
For Uganda, the success strengthens hopes of continued progress in youth football, while Kingston’s commitment to the project could prove important as preparations begin for future assignments.
With one year remaining on his contract, attention will now turn to what the Ghanaian tactician can achieve during the remainder of his stay. His latest comments, however, make his immediate position clear: he is enjoying life in Uganda and appears content with the environment in which he is working.
Kingston will hope to build on the CECAFA success by continuing to nurture young talents and helping Uganda establish itself as a competitive force in youth football across the region.
