Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has been handed a three-match suspension by FIFA following remarks he made after the Pharaohs’ defeat to Argentina in the last 16 of the World Cup.
The disciplinary decision comes after Egypt’s elimination from the tournament, with the world football governing body taking action over comments made by the experienced Egyptian tactician in the aftermath of the match.
Hassan’s suspension means he will be unable to lead Egypt from the touchline for the next three matches covered by the sanction, presenting a setback for the national team as it prepares for its upcoming assignments.
In a separate disciplinary decision, Egypt forward Mostafa Zico has received a five-match suspension, according to confirmation from the Egyptian Football Association.
The ban on Zico is longer than the sanction imposed on Hassan and could affect the forward’s availability for Egypt’s forthcoming fixtures, depending on the competition and the terms of the suspension.
The decisions represent a disciplinary blow for the Pharaohs following their World Cup campaign, with both the technical bench and playing squad affected.
Hassan, a former Egypt international striker who took charge of the national team, will now have to serve his suspension while the Egyptian football authorities assess the implications for the team’s preparations.
Further details regarding the full disciplinary findings and the specific matches covered by the suspensions will be important in determining the overall impact on Egypt.
The sanctions come at a crucial stage for the North African nation as it looks to move beyond its World Cup disappointment and refocus on its next international commitments.
