Egyptian Premier League sides, Zamalek and Pyramids FC, have expressed their disagreement against CAF’s proposal to postpone the CAF competitions semi-finals.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had already decided on dates and venues for the Confederation Cup and Champions League semi-finals.
Four of these encounters were set to take place in Morocco as they have four teams representing them including Wydad Casablanca, Raja Casablanca, RS Berkane and HUSA.
However as coronavirus cases continue to increase in Morocco, CAF informed all participating teams that they are considering postponing the matches.
Zamalek president, Mortada Mansour, told the club’s official website that he prefers playing the games in Egypt rather than postponing them.
“I propose we play the home and away games of the CAF Champions League semi-finals in Egypt. We welcome our fellow Moroccans, for whom we have all the love and appreciation,” said Mansour.
“But we refuse to postpone the games because of a deal made between Mohamed Fadl, a member of the normalization committee and some Moroccan teams.
“The league harmed many Zamalek players and they were insisting on resuming the league just so Al Ahly beat us but the opposite happened.
“Despite our situation, I consider Zamalek as being the only club that benefited from the league’s resumption as we now sit second, securing us a spot in the Champions League, while our rivals didn’t benefit from it,” he concluded.
Mansour’s son and the Zamalek’s first team supervisor, Amir Mortada Mansour, confirmed that they are not the only club taking this stance as league rivals Pyramids FC believe the tournament’s shouldn’t be postponed.
According to the Whites’ website, both clubs asked for all the games to be played in Egypt instead during an online meeting with CAF representatives.
