Berekum Chelsea were in very good form during the Ghana Premier League last season but they have been shockingly poor this season.
The Berekum-based side recorded 8 wins, 2 draws, 5 defeats in 15 league matches in the 2019/20 campaign that was eventually cancelled and they were 3rd place after the first round of the competition.
The Blues recorded some big wins and on the road they were the best team of the league winning four games as the away team. The away wins were a 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak in Accra, a 1-0 victory against Asante Kotoko in Kumasi, a 1-0 success at Len Clay over Ashantigold and a 1-0 win against Great Olympics in Accra.
However this season Berekum Chelsea have won no games away after completing six games already.
What is the problem?
The club lost Jonah Attuquaye – who is now with Legon Cities – and also the likes of Zakaria Fuseini , Foster Brimah and Ahmed Adams all have left the club. Goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad on loan from Kotoko also returned to his parent club and they seem to be paying the price for not been able to keep a consistent side.
Relegation zone
The 2011 Ghana champions are in the relegation zone , in the 16th place, after throwing away a 3-0 led against King Faisal who staged a great comeback to win 4-3 in Techiman. Chelsea have 2 wins, 4 draws and 5 defeats so far in the campaign and things could even get worse.
Managerial changes
Asare Bediako who was their head coach last season will not continue at the club as Hesse Odamten started the season as head coach but he was relieved of his duties and currently they are under the tutelage of Seth Hoffman.
