Hamburger SV Martin Pieckenhagen believes German-born Ghanaian footballer Aaron Opoku would play a key role in his side’s fight for promotion.
Opoku returned to Hamburger SV after a good loan spell at German third-tier side Hansa Rostock.
The 21-year old highly-rated player is seen as one of the key players to help the side fight for promotion next season.
He made 33 appearances in the league last season and is expected to lead the squad next season as they target promotion to the Bundesliga.
Last season, the club failed to achieve their target of securing qualification as they finished 6th on the table with three points behind qualification mark.
HSV Sporting Director Martin Pieckenhagen explains why Aaron Opoku will be key for the club next season.
“Aaron has in the year with us a very good development taken. This is mainly due to the fact that he listens very closely to the coach and when it comes to defensive work has grown enormously.
“He already had strong moves on the offensive. But Aaron has certainly become more disciplined and has made a big step forward,” said the native of Berlin to“Mopo”.
Opoku made 33 appearances in the league and contributed to 11 goals. He scored five and assisted six.
He will be hoping that he stays at Hamburger SV for the upcoming season. His contract with the Bundesliga II outfit expires in 2022.
