The 34th edition of the AFCON is scheduled to take place in the Ivory Coast from 13 January – 11 February 2024.

Ghana has won the CAN on four occasions with the last one coming in the 13th edition which was hosted in Libya when Ghana defeated the host 7-6 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

17-year-old Abedi Pele was selected by CK Gyamfi in Ghana’s 22-man squad as Ghana won its 4th AFCON title.

Abedi Pele won 73 caps and scored 19 goals for the Black Stars between 1982 and 1998.

When it comes to winning the coveted trophy, the legendary Abedi Pele knows all that it takes.

In an interview with Vision 1FM, Abedi Pele, 59, on Ghana’s chances in the AFCON, said, “Well, we will win. There will be our chances. We’ve been to finals three times and I think our chance will be maybe this time or in the next four years we will be there”.

Ghana lost the finals in 2015 on penalties against Ivory Coast.

Ghana will play against Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique in the imminent AFCON to be played in Ivory Coast.
