Head coach of the national U-23 team, Ibrahim Tanko is optimistic his side will beat Togo on Tuesday in the first leg of the 2019 African U-23 AFCON Qualifiers.
The Black Meteors will host their Togolese counterparts at the Baba Yara sports stadium on Tuesday before travelling to Lome for the reverse leg four days later.
Though the deputy Black Stars gaffer says he barely knows much about the Togolese team, he expects a good win over the West African compatriots at the Baba Yara Stadium on Tuesday in other to make the return encounter an easy match.
Tankko, will be counting on the experience of Yaw Yeboah, Captain Isaac Twum, Finish league winner Evans Mensah, striker Joel Fameyeh, among others to demonstrate his side’s superiority over Togo in the crucial first leg clash.
Speaking exclusively to SportsworldGhana.com ahead of the game, Tanko said ‘’ I believe with the inclusion of the foreign-based players we will have a good team to face Togo and beat them’’
‘’In football you can’t always say you are going to beat your by a big margin but I believe that we the few days training that we’ve had and also seeing the players confidence, I am 100% sure that we will have a strong team to face Togo and hope for victory in the first leg and qualify at the end of the return leg in Lome.’’
He however, called on the fans to come in their numbers to support the Black Meteors to victory.
The qualifiers serves as a route for the Africa U-23 championship in Egypt. The Championship in Egypt will be used as qualifiers for Tokyo 2020.
