Legon Cities forward, Asamoah Gyan has revealed he is well-focused on returning to full fitness, as he declares himself ‘so young,’ following a poor show in his maiden season with the club.
Gyan joined the Royals ahead of the 2020/21 season after deciding to come back to the Ghana Premier League. The 34-year-old penned a four-year deal with the club and was looking forward to having a great debut season.
However, the Ghana forward was faced with several fitness issues and injuries which led to him being left out of the match-day squad on several occasions – failing to score in the just six games he made appearances.
The striker is willing to put in the work for yet another year as he prepares for the 2021/22 season as he targets a return to top form.
“This year I am trying to make sure I stay focused 100% and do something but if not then I will call it a day,” Gyan told TV3 Sports.
“There are a lot of things that I need to tackle, my weight and how to prevent injuries. If I am able to do these, then everybody is going to see the Asamoah Gyan they know.”
While many may have already ruled out Gyan at age 34, the player believes he is still young and capable of replicating his past.
“Age-wise I feel so young. I just want to stay focused and do what I have to do and get back on the field and deliver as I should.”
As identified by himself, Gyan will need to find his scoring boots once again if he is to gain the trust of Ghanaians once again in the Premier League.
