Black Stars head coach, Charles Akonnor has described defender, Daniel Amartey’s return as a “positive addition to his squad.
Amartey featured for the Black Stars in their International friendly 1-0 defeat to Morocco for the first time in four years.
The Leicester City defender was paired with Amien defender Nicholas Opoku for Akonnor.
Amartey finished the English premier league on a high after shaking off a troublesome ankle injury.
Akonnor talked about Amartey’s addition to his squad.
“Fantastic [performance], I mean he is a disciplined boy.
“I have known him before joining the Black Stars or becoming the head coach of the Black Stars.
“When I went to Europe, he was injured, I visited him, I spoke to him and waited for the moment.
“He is here and I think he is a very positive add-on to the team.
“And yes he’s been away for a long time and the fact that he performed this way, you know when you’ve been away for a long time.. [there is rustiness] you know, we didn’t see that.” CK Akonnor on Wednesday morning after the game.
Amartey made 12 appearances for Leicester City, scoring just a goal as the Foxes finished 5th last season.
The former FC Copenhagen defender, has played for Ghana at the 2015 and the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and is expected to be key in the 2021 AFCON to be hosted in Cameroon next year.
The versatile players is expected to play another role when GHANA face Ivory Coast in the next international friendly at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday, June 12.
