Al Ahly conceded a very late equaliser as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Hilal Omdurman in the final round of the CAF Champions League group stages.
Al Ahly maintained possession in the opening 15 minutes but failed to create any real threats on goal.
In the 22nd minute, Marwan Mohsen received a pass from Mohamed Magdy ‘Afsha’, however, the striker’s effort missed the target.
The second half started with a bang, as the Reds broke the deadlock in the 48th minute when Amr El-Sulaya found Hussain El-Shahat with a defence-splitting through pass. The winger squared it to Afsha with a brilliant first touch, that he converted into the back of the net.
The game stopped in the 74th minute following pitch invasion from Al Hilal fans.
Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’ missed a glorious chance just two minutes before the final whistle, as he went past the goalkeeper, however, he failed to convert the ball into the empty net.
The Sudanese side scored the leveler in the sixth minute of injury time through Abdelrazig Omer, who scored from a close range.
After the draw, Al Ahly booked a spot in the tournament’s quarter finals as they finished in Group B’s second spot with 11 points.
