Former Ghana Football Association presidential aspirant Amanda Clinton has thrown her support behind Fernando Santos as her preferred candidate for the Black Stars head coach position.
Speaking in an interview with Citi Sports, Clinton praised the experienced Portuguese tactician as the ideal choice to lead Ghana’s senior national team following the departure of Otto Addo.
Santos is among a number of Portuguese coaches reportedly shortlisted for the role, with Sports Minister Kofi Adams indicating that an appointment is expected by Monday, April 13.
Clinton believes Santos’ track record at both club and international level makes him the best fit to guide the Black Stars back to success.
“The Black Stars will do very well if we get a good coach like Santos, who led Portugal to great success. If we have a good coach and the right people around the team, of course we can win,” she stated.
Santos boasts an impressive résumé, having won the Portuguese league title with FC Porto and guided Portugal to triumph at UEFA Euro 2016, as well as the UEFA Nations League.
With the decision imminent, attention remains on whether Ghana will turn to the Euro-winning coach to spearhead a new era for the Black Stars.
