Andre Ayew has admitted that he is still some way from peak fitness following his recent move to Dutch side NAC Breda, but the experienced Ghanaian forward remains confident as he works steadily towards full match sharpness.
The former Ghana captain made his debut for NAC Breda last weekend and acknowledged that, while he maintained his conditioning during his time without a club, nothing can truly replicate the intensity and demands of competitive football.
“I know I’m not 100 percent fit, but we’re getting there,” Ayew said. “We’re working hard with the physical team. I stayed in shape, but nothing can replace matches and official games. You just have to climb the steps, and very soon I’ll be at my top level.”
Ayew is approaching his recovery with patience and professionalism, trusting that regular game time will soon allow him to perform at his best. His leadership and experience are expected to be vital as NAC Breda battle to secure their Eredivisie status, with the club currently sitting 16th on the table with 14 points from 18 matches.
Looking ahead, Ayew and NAC Breda will host NEC Nijmegen in their next fixture. The Ghanaian forward will be hoping to build on his debut performance and continue his gradual return to full fitness, while contributing both on and off the pitch alongside familiar Ghanaian teammates.
