Black Stars captain Andre Ayew delivered a standout performance in Le Havre’s dramatic 4-3 victory over Lens, scoring and assisting as his side staged two remarkable comebacks to claim a vital win in their fight for survival.
Lens took an early lead in the second minute when Neil El Aynaoui converted a penalty before Ruben Aguilar’s volley made it 2-0 midway through the first half. However, Le Havre refused to fold, with Ayew playing a key role in their resurgence.
Issa Soumaré pulled one back with a stunning long-range effort before setting up Ayew moments later. The Ghanaian forward timed his run perfectly to meet Soumaré’s pinpoint header, directing a brilliant finish into the net to level the game before halftime.
Lens restored their advantage early in the second half through Florian Sotoca, but Ayew was again central to Le Havre’s fightback. His dangerous cross forced Malang Sarr into a poor clearance, allowing Josué Casimir to fire home the equalizer.
The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time when Casimir won a penalty, and Ahmed Hassan stepped up to slot home the winner, completing a remarkable turnaround for Le Havre.
Ayew’s performance highlighted his enduring quality and leadership, with the 34-year-old now tallying five league goals and two assists this season—an invaluable contribution as Le Havre continues their battle to avoid relegation.
