Trabzonspor have been in scintillating form in recent weeks. Having defeated Gaziantep and Karagümrük, Fatih Tekke and his players traveled to the Kadir Has Stadium for the 25th matchday of the Turkish league.
They needed a third consecutive victory to solidify their third-place position while putting pressure on league leaders Galatasaray and, especially, Fenerbahçe.
Against the second-to-last team in the standings, nothing was a given. André Onana and his teammates took this match seriously to avoid any surprises. Against all expectations, the home side put up a fierce resistance against the visitors.
Semih Guler, deployed in defense, was well positioned to thwart any attacking attempts by Trabzonspor. The defensive strategy implemented by Kayserispor’s coaching staff allowed the visitors plenty of space.
In stoppage time (45+2′), the ever-reliable Paul Onuachu opened the scoring (0-1). Five minutes later, he doubled his tally by converting a penalty (0-2). It’s worth noting that Dorkhan Todöz was sent off in the 8th minute.
Trabzonspor were cruising. André Onana didn’t have enough to do. He needed to remain vigilant. In the 53rd minute, goalkeeper Bilal Bayazit scored an own goal (0-3).
A one-sided match. It wasn’t until the 81st minute that German Onugkha pulled one back (1-3). But it wasn’t enough to unsettle Trabzonspor. With this 16th victory, André Onana and his teammates remain third with 54 points.
