The Federacao Angolana de Futbol (FAF) has announced the appointment of former Senegalese head coach, Aliou Cisse, as the new head coach.
Cisse, 50, left his role as the head coach of the Libyan national team only on Wednesday, 8th April and less than 24 hours later, he has been confirmed as the new head coach for the Palancas Negras of Angola.
After 101 days as the head coach of the Libyan national team, Cisse is set to embark on a new journey in his coaching career.
The former Senegal captain became the first-ever coach to win AFCON for Senegal. He led them to victory in Cameroon 2021 after finishing as runner-up in 2019 in Egypt.
Angola will expect Cisse to qualify the national team for the 2027 AFCON and at least reach the quarter-finals, accompanied by decent performances. Also, the 2030 World Cup is a target for the nation, and they will expect Cisse to lead them to the Promised Land. Although the AFCON qualifiers are the most important agenda now.
Born in Ziguinchor, Cisse led Senegal to two World Cups in 2018 and 2022, making him one of the most experienced coaches in international football from Africa.
Patrice Beaumelle parted ways with the Angola national team after the disappointing 2025 AFCON, where Angola finished third in Group B with Egypt, South Africa and Zimbabwe, winning just 2 points and failing to progress to the knockout stage.
