Black Stars record goal scorer and captain, Asamoah Gyan has congratulated his compatriots, Christian Atsu and Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Teye Partey for being nominated for this year’s African footballer of the year award.
The Stars failed to put an end to their 35 year Afcon trophy drought but however, the impact of the duo has been recognized by the football hierarchy on the continent.
Gyan, who holds the record of scoring the first ever goal in the FIFA World cup for Ghana , speaking in an exclusive interview with Kumasi based Angel FM , congratulated the two on their nominations.
”I congratulate Christian Atsu and Thomas Partey because they have really worked hard”.
”They have been able to fit themselves into the Black Stars team and their various teams, Thomas Partey especially, has being in superb form this season for both club and country. He has managed to score five goals in his last four games played for Ghana. He is a very good footballer and he has added goal scoring to his game, he scored in the champions league this week and won the man of the match award during the AFCON and that shows he has consistency at his disposal, just as Atsu for Newcastle”.
The respective winners will be announced in the Ghanaian capital Accra on 4 January 2018. Votes from a combination of head coaches and technical directors from national teams, as well as members of Caf’s Technical and Development Committee and a panel of media experts will determine who wins the prestigious award on the continent.
