No Ghanaian player has been at the Africa Cup of Nations more times than the current captain of the side Asamoah Gyan who is making his record 6th appearance at the Nations Cup in Gabon 2017.
The captain was fouled in the box by Ugandan defender Isaac Isinde for Andre Ayew to score the resulting penalty as Ghana won 1-0 in Port –Gentil.
Gyan made his debut campaign in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2008, went on to play the 2010 edition where he powered the team to the finals but lost to Egypt, then in 2012 Gabon/Equatorial Guinea, 2013 South Africa, 2015 Equatorial Guinea, Gyan was there again.
I asked Asamoah Gyan how he is feeling to be making his 6th Nations Cup appearance and this is what he said.
“ I feel blessed. You know its not easy to play 6 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. I still feel strong despite recent injuries. The injuries have slowed me down a bit in recent times because I have not been consistent but I will be fine” Asamoah Gyan said to Metro FM Sports in Port-Gentil.
“Yes of course I have been thinking about winning the tournament with Ghana and I do worry a lot. Having played in many Cup of Nations and Im not winning it certainly I do worry. ” Gyan added.
